Brad Hodge has been badgered for years about writing an autobiography but was reluctant to do so because his international career didn’t live up to his own expectations. Most people would be happy to represent their country at the highest level on 46 occasions, score a Test double-century and be a part of a World Cup-winning squad. But for Hodge, he looks back on his time in the Australian team as a bittersweet one in that he was one of the unluckiest players of his generation to not play more for the national team, particularly in Tests following his unbeaten 203 against a strong South African attack in Perth in 2005.
So instead of going over the highs and lows of his own career, Hodge decided to tackle the task of selecting then ranking the top 20 knocks by Aussie batters over the past half-century. And he was able to interview most of the batting legends who made the final list after a painstaking process of coming up with the innings that he considers the absolute cream of the crop, by men and women, in all three formats.
