Tuesday, January 21, 2025 Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has teamed up with Samaritans to bring back the ‘Brew Train,’ a unique initiative aimed at fostering conversations and supporting mental health awareness. This initiative, part of Samaritans’ Brew Monday campaign, counters the myth of “Blue Monday” by encouraging individuals to connect over a cup of tea and engage in meaningful conversations. The Brew Train ran from Peterborough to St Pancras International on January 20, 2025, with volunteers distributing tea bags, biscuits, and leaflets to travelers along the East Coast Main Line.
GTR’s partners, including suicide prevention organizations such as Andy’s Man Club and The Jordan Legacy, joined the initiative. Luton Town Football Club also participated, with Academy players engaging with passengers at St Pancras International. Focus on Mental Health Support and Connection The initiative aligns with the government’s emphasis on mental health awareness and suicide prevention, as outlined by the UK Department of Health and Social Care.
Samaritans’ volunteers emphasize the importance of fostering human connection, highlighting that their support services receive a call for help every 10 seconds. Passengers and staff alike are encouraged to embrace the campaign’s message: to reach out and check in with loved ones. GTR’s Security Improvement Manager, Hannah Lindsay, emphasized the importance of starting the year on a positive note by having meaningful conv.
