, announced today that it has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its newly implemented Safety Management System (SMS) plan, which will enhance the design and manufacturing processes for Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft. This approval further strengthens the company’s existing FAA-approved SMS program, which has long supported the maintenance and servicing of these iconic aircraft models. A Safety Management System (SMS) is a structured method for managing product safety, integrating organizational frameworks, responsibilities, policies, and procedures. Textron Aviation’s newly launched SMS initiative features a voluntary reporting tool, enabling employees, customers, and suppliers to anonymously report potential quality risks or safety hazards related to aircraft. These reports are reviewed by the SMS Committee, which assesses the risk, investigates the root causes, and formulates an appropriate response.
