Vernon left his Radio 2 buddy Scott Mills gobsmacked with a bombshell about how he encountered his now-wife Tess and the part Britney Spears played in it. Scott Mills was ending his afternoon radio show with the Britney Spears song Stronger. The song put him in nostalgic mood as he talked about his days as a presenter of BBC music show Top of the Pops@play.
This led Vernon, 50, to stroll down memory lane too and recount how he met Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess. It turns how they had "recreated" a Britney Spears video, with Vernon playing Britney – arevelation that left Scott reeling. Tess and Vernon were both presenters on the music show at the time and producers sent them to record a piece, part of which was them recreating Britney’s iconic Hit Me Baby One More Time video.
“She was dressed as Geri Halliwell in the Spice Girls Union Jack dress; I was dressed as Britney Spears in the 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' video. School uniform. It was in a charity shop on Shepherd's Bush Green," recalled Vernon.
And Vernon even hinted he has Scott to thank for the pair getting together. “I think you teed it up. I think you set it up as, 'Why don't you and our new presenter, Tess Daly, go and do this?'".
