Pune: A 17-year-old youth was detained in Bhor taluka on Tuesday on the charge of sexually assaulting a two-year-old daughter of his neighbour earlier in the same morning when the girl had gone to his house to play. The Rajgad police have charged the youth under sections 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault ) and 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following a complaint by the girl's mother. Police inspector Rajesh Gawali told TOI that the youth, who is a school dropout, and the complainant are neighbours residing in rented houses.
"According to the complainant, on Tuesday morning her daughter was in her neighbour's house. After some time, she heard her daughter crying." He said when the woman ran to her neighbour's house, she found the girl was crying in a room that was locked from inside.
"The woman told us when she raised an alarm, the youth opened the door. He threatened to kill the woman and fled." After receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and took the girl to a hospital, Gawali said.
"We nabbed the youth before he could escape.".
