The man was sentenced in a children's court in May for dangerous driving occasioning death and was on parole when he was hit with a string of new charges in July, including aggravated break and enter and being carried in a conveyance taken without consent. The teen, who cannot be named due to being a minor at the time of the 2022 crash, faced Wollongong Local Court and sought bail to attend a residential drug rehabilitation facility on Wednesday.
Defence lawyer Ron Davis argued his client had good prospects of rehabilitation due to his young age, with risks of re-offending mitigated by the fact there is no day release at the facility for the first two months of the program. Mr Davis said the case against the man was weak with no evidence identifying him at the scene of the alleged break-in. The lawyer said the 2022 crash was the sole serious matter on the man's record, .
