Buddy and Sonja Myers celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary a year early on Saturday during an elaborate ceremony at Life Church in Laurel.

ComfortCare Hospice Raven Anderson has been taking care of 76-year-old Buddy after he was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer eight months ago and learned Sonja hoped to walk down the aisle to her husband one more time. Anderson made Sonja's dream came true on Saturday when she was able to renew her vows in a beautiful lace wedding gown surrounded by friends and family while medical teams helped bed-bound Buddy make it on stage. 'They made something happen that I never thought would happen and I cannot tell them how much I appreciate everything they have done,' Sonja told WDAM .



Buddy and Sonja Myers celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary a year early on Saturday during an elaborate ceremony at Life Church Buddy (right), 76, was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer eight months ago and Sonja dreamed of walking down the aisle to her husband one more time 'I thought then I loved her with all my heart, but oh no, I love her more than I have ever loved anybody in all my life,' said Buddy. Anderson rallied the troops to help make the Myers ceremony happen at Life Church - the church where the had been leading Bible study classes and have been active members for the past 19 years according to The Laurel Leader Call . 'After I got to talking with the family, it came to me that (Sonja) wanted to walk down an aisle next year, at their 25th (anniversary) and so, I started contemplating for a little while and thinking about it and was like, "We could make that happen a little early,"' she said.

'Hospice is a tough situation for everybody and there’s a lot of hard feelings and if we can bring happiness and joy to somebody, that’s why we do it.' Local business and community members donated goods and services to the couple including Sonja's wedding dress, their cake, flowers, décor, photography and transportation for Buddy. ' 'This celebration is the ultimate love story of two individuals who were given a second chance to find love again,' said Buddy's brother Bill who officiated the ceremony. 'They have been blessed together in a marriage of love, joy, and happiness. They have also been joint ministers serving God while setting a beautiful example for all married couples, young and old, of what a true marriage centered around God and built on unconditional love is all about.
