Triathlete Hayden Wilde looked less than pleased after being pipped by Alex Yee yet again and watching his great rival showboat as he crossed the winning line. Great Britain’s Yee produced a sensational comeback to beat New Zealand’s Wilde to gold in the Paris Olympics triathlon event . Wilde looked set for victory as he opened up a 15-second lead on the final run leg but Yee came roaring back to upgrade his Tokyo silver, overhauling Wilde in the closing stages.

It was a case of déjà vu for Wilde in Sunday’s Boston supertri as Yee left it late once again to overtake and take the win. Yee left this comeback even later, overtaking a tiring Wilde on the home straight and pounding his chest as he made his way to the finish line. The 26-year-old, who was born in Lewisham, was even able to showboat with victory in the bag, slowing down as he crossed the line with his arms folded.

The celebrate irritated Wilde, who aimed angry glances at his rival and threw his arms up in the air, having showed great sportsmanship following their epic tussle in Paris . ITS HAPPENED AGAIN! 🥶 Cold finish for @Lixsanyee pic.twitter.

’ Wilde, meanwhile, said he was desperate to get his hands on gold in next week’s Chicago triathlon after being beaten by Yee yet again. ‘Oh man, I think I’ve been seeing too many silvers in the last couple of weeks so it would be nice to get a gold so yeah, bring on Chicago,’ he said. Yee followed up his Olympic gold in Paris by winning bronze in the triathlon mixed relay alongside Georgia Taylor-Brown, Sam Dickinson and Beth Potter .

Speaking after securing gold in the individual event, Yee said: ‘I’m not really sure myself (how I managed it), to be honest. ‘It was just one of those magic moments where you hear about these Olympic moments and people finding extra stuff within themselves. ‘If I did that, then I gave myself a shot. And if I come 10th, that’s fine. If I come last, that’s fine.

I guess it went beyond my wildest dreams. ‘To be able to go into this one with a little bit of expectation, admittedly, and all my friends and family around was really special, to be able to deliver that. ‘I think it’s probably one of the most beautiful venues we’ve ever done the triathlon and probably the Olympic Games has ever seen.

This is super special.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page . Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram .
