Thursday, August 22, 2024 On Wednesday, August 21st, TAP Air Portugal proudly commemorates the 75th anniversary of its inaugural flight to São Tomé. This landmark occasion was celebrated with special festivities for passengers at both Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon and São Tomé International Airport. In Lisbon, travelers were treated to delicious São Tomé chocolate cakes and received commemorative postcards featuring an image of the historic flight, TP522.

This flight, which first took off in 1949, was piloted by Captain Canelhas aboard a DC-3 Dakota, registration CS-TDE, one of TAP’s early aircraft. This very aircraft also played a pivotal role in the renowned Imperial Air Line, which linked Lisbon with Angola and Mozambique. The route, which carried 28 passengers, was notable for its 12-stop journey that spanned 15 days.

Fast forward 75 years, and TAP now operates the TP1527 flight between Lisbon and São Tomé five times a week. The service is provided by a state-of-the-art A321LRneo, featuring 168 seats, including 16 in business class that convert into fully flat beds. Passengers enjoy a modern travel experience with a 16-inch screen at each seat, offering over 120 movies, 170 music albums, and more than 230 hours of television series.

TAP Air Portugal’s dedication to enhancing the travel experience continues, ensuring that both historic and modern journeys are marked with exceptional service and comfort..
