In a span of 20 years, Tannishtha Chatterjee has accrued a reputation for excellence in non-mainstream cinema. The commercial Hindi cinema has been less accepting of her. She comes out of her shell for an exclusive interview with Zoom.

Excerpts from the interview You turned a year older this week..how do you look back on your career and life so far? I don’t look back.



I would like to look ahead. Which would you say are the landmarks of your life and career? Well, Florian Gallenberger’s Shadows Of Time and Sarah Gavron’s Brick Lane were landmarks for me. Thereafter Parched was another landmark.

Making my film Roam Rome Mein was another landmark. And of course, having adopted daughter Radhika in my life is the most beautiful thing that has happened. ALSO READ: Tannishtha Chatterjee On Hema Committee Report: Everyone Is Scared, But We Can Never Name Them.

.. Which films do you hold closest to your heart and why? There are many films which are very close to my heart.

But some of those which people haven’t been able to see are even closer. Dr Rakhmabai is a very special film to me and it has still not been released. You know, I was listening to Mr Raj Kapoor’s interview once and he said that the films which were box office hits and extremely successful are not the ones that he cared for as much as he cared for the ones which did not quite make it.

So I would like to see Dekh Indian Circus and Dr Rakhmabai both these films are very close to my heart which most people haven.
