Mumbai: From taller buildings to classrooms for collaborative learning , the premier IIT-Bombay is all set for a massive makeover in the next few years, not to enhance the infrastructure alone, but also to evolve the teaching-learning processes . A five-year review report from 2018 to 2022, made public on Thursday, mentioned that the institute has a planned expenditure of around Rs 2,000 crore in the next few years for the initiative. While some of the revamp plans were already in the pipeline, others are being planned after recommendations of the review committee, which included enhancement of teaching quality, modifying placement process, addressing stress management issues, and improving infrastructure, among other things.
One of the recommendations from the committee's report also mentioned that there is a consensus on the need for academic oversight given the considerable expansion of the institute in the recent years. "We are exploring ways on making the teaching-learning process more exciting for both the faculty and the students. The faculty at the institute are convinced that academic spaces should not remain in the conventional format, where students sit in rows, but in a circular fashion, where they can discuss, see each other and participate together.
Lecture halls can be designed keeping this requirement in mind. The concept of flipped classrooms for some sessions will also be introduced to maximise learning," said director, Shireesh Kedare, adding that the revie.
