Thursday, October 3, 2024 Typhoon Krathon has caused widespread travel chaos across Taiwan, grounding a total of 78 flights and affecting major airlines, including Peach Airlines, Jetstar, Cathay Pacific, and Vietnam Airlines. The powerful storm, which made landfall in the southern city of Kaohsiung, brought torrential rains and strong winds, leading to severe disruptions at Taiwan’s major airports. As the island battles flooding and high winds, travelers on these airlines face significant delays and cancellations, with the storm continuing to impact transportation and safety across the region.

Typhoon Krathon made landfall in Taiwan’s port city of Kaohsiung on Thursday, bringing torrential rains and fierce winds that severely disrupted travel across the island. The storm, packing winds of up to 162 kph (101 mph), caused widespread flooding and downed trees, leading to closures of schools, businesses, and significant air travel disruptions. According to FlightAware, 39 flights were canceled , and 132 delayed at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport , the country’s largest hub. Kaohsiung International Airport , closer to the storm’s epicenter, saw 24 flights canceled and 23 delayed , while Taipei Songshan Airport reported 15 cancellations and 13 delays . Travelers across the island faced long wait times and uncertain travel plans as the storm ravaged southern cities.
