Friday, July 19, 2024 Swissôtel Nankai Osaka has recently achieved its first certification from Green Globe, marking a significant milestone as the first ACCOR property in Japan to receive this recognition. Situated in the vibrant Namba district of Osaka, an area known for its bustling nightlife, shopping, and dining scenes, this deluxe hotel is setting a benchmark in sustainable hospitality. The hotel’s sustainability efforts are comprehensive, involving not just its operations but its community of guests, employees, and suppliers.

Initiatives include encouraging guests to forego daily housekeeping to lessen environmental impact and striving to abolish single-use plastics. The hotel has also transitioned to digital mediums, eliminating paper use in administrative and guest-facing areas. A notable innovation at Swissôtel Nankai Osaka is the Sky Farm, a hydroponic vertical garden located on the 36th floor at the restaurant’s entrance.

This garden supplies the hotel’s dining outlets with fresh vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers, cutting down on transportation emissions and reducing the property’s overall carbon footprint. Hydroponics also lowers water usage and minimizes the need for soil-depleting pesticides. The hotel actively collaborates with like-minded partners to enhance its sustainability impact.

It supports local enterprises by featuring unique products available only at Swissôtel Nankai Osaka. These include organic seasonal produce from Senshu Agri Farm, an exclusive sake from Kitashoji Sake Brewery, a crafted IPA from Kamigata Brewery, and sustainable champagne from Telmont. The hotel’s tea and coffee offerings are equally eco-conscious, with Dilmah providing ethically sourced tea and Nespresso offering sustainably sourced coffee with a robust recycling program for its capsules.

Employee engagement in environmental stewardship is another cornerstone of the hotel’s strategy. Swissôtel Nankai Osaka offers comprehensive training for its staff on sustainable practices, focusing on waste reduction, recycling, and the implementation of eco-friendly policies. This holistic approach ensures that the hotel’s sustainability initiatives are embraced and promoted at all levels of operation.
