Starting its 21-day voyage from Cape Town, South Africa on November 13, the ship’s destination was initially the South Georgian Island capital of Ushuaia, with Antarctica as the ultimate highlight. However, on the 14th day of the journey, a malfunction in one of its two propulsion electric motors forced the ship to cut short its plans, ending what would have been a three-and-a-half-day visit to the Antarctic.

Impact on Passengers and Passenger Protest The disruption led to growing discontent among the 192 passengers onboard. Initially, passengers were excited about the cruise, with luxury amenities such as a panoramic sauna, open-deck jacuzzi, and a “world-class restaurant” awaiting them. The experience was expected to be unforgettable.

However, as the reality of the technical failure set in, many began to express anger and frustration, especially since they were deprived of their anticipated experience in the Antarctic region. A source on board the SH Diana revealed that tensions were escalating rapidly, and it was becoming a tense situation as passengers grew more upset with the turn of events. Some passengers staged a hunger strike as a form of protest, expressing their dismay with the cruise line’s handling of the situation.
