Sven-Goran Eriksson spent his final days in a plush £4million lakeside mansion in his native Sweden. The former England manager died on Monday surrounded by his family following a battle against pancreatic cancer. He was 76.

Having coached around the world, Eriksson resettled back in his homeland in later life, living in a luxury home which boasted 12 rooms, its own marina, a swimming pool and six acres of land on the shores of Lake Fryken in western Sweden. Originally built in the 1800s, the property was actually put up for sale in 2013 but was never sold. Buyers were potentially put off by the ghost of a previous resident who, according to legend, was still in the house.

The resident, Karl Johan Tjeder, reportedly provided Nobel Literature Prize-winning author Selma Lagerlof with the inspiration for the evil character Sintram in her book Gosta Berling's Saga. Eriksson was still living in it at the time of the Prime Video documentary about his life which was only released last..
