Wilson Adekumola Agege and Surulere Local Government Areas have been ranked as the most hazardous and very unhealthy areas for air quality in Lagos State, respectively. This was revealed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency in its Air Quality Index report for October 2024, which was shared on its verified X page on Tuesday. LASEPA noted that while the current air quality in some parts of the state may fall below optimal standards, it reassured Lagos residents of its ongoing efforts to improve the city’s air conditions.

According to the report, Agege recorded the worst air quality with a hazardous rating of 103 per cent, indicating a severe pollution level harmful to public health. Surulere followed with a “very unhealthy” rating of 76.1 per cent, while Mushin and LAMATA Kosefe registered air quality ratings of 47.

3 per cent and 46 per cent, both classified as unhealthy. In contrast, Lekki emerged as the area with the cleanest air, boasting a good air quality rating of 10.1 per cent, while LASEPA’s own site recorded an even lower score of 7.

6 per cent, also categorized as good air quality. The Air Quality Index, LASEPA explained, is a tool designed to inform the public about the levels of air pollution and its potential health effects. While warning residents of the risks, the agency highlighted the importance of the index in monitoring and managing environmental health hazards.
