The Royal Family is well known to be big animal lovers, but some of the pets that they have kept over the years will still likely come as somewhat of a surprise to the public. The late Queen Elizabeth was so dedicated to her assortment of corgis, horses, and ponies, that some of them even made an appearance on the final stretches of her funeral procession in Windsor, and her love of animals is something that can be seen throughout the generations of the monarchy. Queen Camilla - proud owner of two Jack Russell terriers - has also worked tirelessly as patron of Battersea Dog's Home, to promote the good cause, and Prince Michael of Kent is president of the charity, which has had royal connections since 1885 when Queen Victoria became patron.

The House of Windsor adores their furry friends, and whilst their bevy of family dogs are, in particular, well known to the public, but some of their bonds with these lesser-known pets are seriously sweet. Some of the family's surprising pets over the years are seriously quirky and rare, starting off with one of the late Queen Elizabeth's childhood pets - a chameleon. Shared with her younger sister Princess Margaret, the two royal youngsters were seriously hands-on owners, with a royal author revealing in Hello Magazine the sisters even used to collect an assortment of dead flies for their beloved pet to munch on - indicating just how early the late Queen's love for all animals really began.
