Superhero-themed diner Gotham and Eggs has announced its permanent closure in a social media post. Located at 3139 South Grand Boulevard, in the former City Diner space, Gotham and Eggs was lauded for its breakfast fare, like the Robin’s Nest dish, a mix of slinger, nachos and fries. “This decision wasn’t easy, but we are so proud of the community that came together here,” the post reads.
“We’ve shared many unforgettable moments with you." Shanisah and Jason Knight opened Gotham and Eggs on South Grand Boulevard last August, but Shanisah Knight said the eatery had been struggling financially ever since. Thanks to unexpected equipment repairs and replacements, two break-ins and less foot traffic than anticipated, Knight said they had been operating month-to-month for a while.
To help keep from shuttering, the business created a GoFundMe last month with a goal of $50,000 as “a last ditch effort,” Knight said. The Knights used the few thousand dollars raised through the campaign to get caught up on rent and they increased food prices to help close the gap, but it wasn’t enough. “Thank you for being part of our adventure,” the diner’s Facebook post reads.
“Your support has meant the world to us, and we’ll never forget the memories we’ve created together..
