After a sunny, beautiful weekend, our weather will turn somewhat unsettled yet still humid during the work week. If you don’t like the extreme heat, the good news is the cloud cover will keep temperatures pretty close to average for the latter half of July. This is by statistical standards the warmest part of the summer, but in actuality it’s likely that the hot weather we had a week ago will end up being the hottest week of the summer.

Of course, we still have the month of August, which can bring extreme heat, especially during the first half of the month. A broad southwest flow of air will take over this week. This will keep those dew points in the 60s and lower 70s, meaning that although it won’t be super hot, it will be quite humid.

With the added humidity I’m expecting the chance for showers and even the rumble of thunder starting Tuesday and continuing through Friday. Advertisement For those of you are on vacation this week, it can be frustrating to look at your phone and seeing the shower icon every single day. Take heart in that I don’t expect us to see any washouts, but especially in the afternoon those clouds could yield showers.

The driest day this week will be Monday with basically no chance of any shower activity and temperatures reaching the mid-80s. On Tuesday, the cloud cover will dominate and there’s a good chance that all of us will see at least some shower activity, especially in the afternoon. Looking ahead, there will be an additional chance for showers again Wednesday and Thursday, mostly in the afternoon.

Sunshine will be limited and temperatures will be in the 70s to lower 80s. Wednesday will likely be a bit warmer with at least some sunny hours possible and a lower chance of intermittent showers. The pattern continues until the weekend when it turns sunnier, but the heat will increase to perhaps uncomfortable levels.

Southern New England: Sunshine and clouds will start the work week with temperatures in the 80s. Mornings will start in the 60s to near 70. Winds will be light, becoming a gentle sea breeze in the afternoon.

Clouds will yield some showers on Tuesday with highs in the 70s and higher levels of humidity. Advertisement Cape Cod and Islands: Monday is definitely the pick of the week for the best weather. Clouds and a few showers are in the forecast for the rest of the workweek before it turns drier this weekend.

Temperatures will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s most afternoons with morning readings within a few degrees of 70. Western Mass.: Sunny Monday, then clouds and showers arrive Tuesday.

Highs will be in the 80s today, but 70s to near 80 with the clouds and shower chances the rest of the week. Northern New England: It’s a gorgeous start to Monday with lots of sunshine and temperatures well into the 80s inlands and upper 70s to lower 80s at the immediate coastline. Showers and clouds arrive Tuesday, but although the rest of the week will bring the chance of showers, there will be dry hours.
