Drivers are being warned that road closures could add more time to their journeys this week. Here are five road closures people should be aware of. The A134 in Assington, near Sudbury, will be closed from Monday, August 5 until Tuesday, August 13.

While the road is closed Suffolk Highways will be carrying out work in the area. The official diversion route on Suffolk County Council's website is 36 miles long and is expected to take around an hour to complete. The A140 will closed on Sunday while a huge 580-tonne transformer is escorted through Suffolk.



The 80m long loads will leave Ipswich at around 6am and will travel via local Ipswich roads to the A14 where rolling road blocks will be put in place. The transformers will then join the A140 after leaving Ipswich and will travel up to Mendlesham Industrial Estate, mid Suffolk, where they will take a short break, before continuing on to Yaxley. During this final stretch of the journey the A140 will be closed from the A14 junction at Beacon Hill Services, near Needham Market, to the A143 junction, near Scole, at the Suffolk-Norfolk border.

Ipswich Road in Westerfield will be closed from Monday to Saturday while Suffolk Highways carries out urgent works. The road closure will be in place between 7pm and 5am. An 18-mile diversion route will be in place while the road is closed.

Halesworth Road near Halesworth will be closed until August 16 while Essex and Suffolk Water carry out works in the area. While the road is closed a 16-mile diversion route will be in place which is expected to take around half an hour to complete. Gulpher Road, Felixstowe Gulpher Road in Felixstowe will be closed from Wednesday to Friday while City Fibre carries out work.
