Albinen (Image: (Image: By Xenos - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0)) A beautiful village in the heart of the famous Alps is paying people to move there - and it has more women than men. Although much of the world seems concerned with overtourism and mass immigration right now, and all the problems they can bring, one little spot in Switzerland is having the opposite problem: it doesn't have enough residents, especially eligible bachelors or families, and is paying people to move there.

Albinen is a stunning mountain town, with lower areas dominated by forests and meadows, and the higher altitudes are crisp with snow, especially in winter. Set in the south of the Swiss Alps, the village is 1,275m (4,183 ft) above sea level and is something of a sun trap, set in a sunny south-facing slope between two rivers. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.

It has more women than men living there and a third of its locals report themselves as single. As well as being in a calm and sunny location, Albinen has excellent transport links to some of the Swiss Alps' most famous locations including Zermatt, Saas-Fee, Verbier and Leukerbad. In winter, skiers can head to nearby Torrent, which boasts 50km of ski slopes offering panoramic views of the Swiss, French and Italian Alps.

Albinen is also one of the most well preserved Swiss mountain villages, with many homes several hundred years old. To help improve its declining population, Albinen is offering 20,000 Swiss Francs (that's roughly £17,000, to any adults aged under 45 willing to move to Switzerland, with an additional 10,000 Francs for each child (£8,500). That means a family of four could example be paid a bumper £51,000 to move to Albinen.
