As we enjoy the last slice of summer in Sussex, wildlife is also making the most of the September sun. Argus Camera Club member Tom Shakespeare has been out at one of his favourite spots to capture birds and insects in the county, Warnham Nature Reserve. The site near Horsham is home to all sorts of creatures, including resident kingfishers which attract photographers and birders to the hides at the edge of the pond.

Tom snapped a cormorant enjoying a fish supper, a migrant hawker dragonfly and a buzzard soaring way up overheard. The reserve is home to 21 species of dragonfly which can be seen zipping around the different wetland habitats. It is a 92-acre site, owned and managed by Horsham District Council, and was designated a local nature reserve in 1988.

Tom's snaps also capture the luscious green backdrop of the reserve which is clinging on to the bright summer colours before autumn rolls in. Warnham has a pond, marshes, grassland and woodland and is home to more than 400 plant species and more than 100 species of bird..
