A stunning country pub with ancient beams has scooped the title of best pub in the north-west at a prestigious national awards ceremony. The Cholmondeley Arms , which has been on an award-winning streak since its revamp by Cheshire Cat Pubs, is nestled in the picturesque village of Cholmondeley in Cheshire, just an hour's drive from Manchester, and occupies the village's historic former schoolhouse. The National Pub and Bar Awards judges lavished praise on The Cholmondeley Arms, describing it as "one of England's most unique pubs" as they crowned it North West Pub and Bar of the Year at this week's annual event.

The thrilled owners took to Instagram to express their joy at the accolade from the Pub and Bar Magazine Awards, adding to their triumphs which include being named pub of the year at the Great British Pub Awards. Their Instagram post celebrated the victory: "WHAT A NIGHT! We are honoured to have been named the regional winner for the North-West at last night's National @pubandbarmag awards! ". "We are over the moon! Thank you so very much to all of our lovely customers, our amazing team, and of course to Pub and Bar Magazine for naming us as this year's winner.

We were up against some amazing competition, and are just so very proud.", reports the Manchester Evening News . Affectionately referred to as "The Chum" by its regulars, The Cholmondeley Arms was hailed during the announcement of its win at the awards, with judges stating: "The North West Pub and Bar of the Year is set in beautiful countryside and is arguably one of England's most unique pubs.

" The pub was praised for its "various club activations, supplier collaborations and menu specials". Renowned for its hearty pub classics, the establishment boasts a legendary Sunday roast and an extensive drinks selection, featuring over 300 different gins. Cheshire Cat Pubs had even more reason to celebrate as The Fitzherbert Arms in Swynnerton, Staffordshire, scooped up the 'Tyrrellbly Good Taste Award'.

The accolade was given in recognition of their delectable fare, community spirit, and newly introduced bedrooms. The brains behind Cheshire Cat Pubs and Inns, Tim Bird and Mary Mclaughlin, have made it their mission to revive "lost cause" pubs, starting with 'The Chum' in 2011. Their efforts in restoring and refurbishing the old schoolhouse have paid off, creating the inviting charm and character that the pub is celebrated for today.

Taking home the prestigious Tyrell's National Pub and Bar of the Year title was The George Inn, located in Norton St Phillips, Somerset. Judges were impressed, citing the pub as "demonstrated the attributes of a near perfect venue"..
