DILWORTH — Studio Vibe Dance & Performance stages the Disney musical “Newsies” at TAK Music Venue from Sunday, Aug. 11 through Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Based on the 1992 movie of the same name, the show follows a group of newsboys in 1899, New York, who stand up to publishers when they raise prices at the expense of the child distributors. The story is based on the New York City newsboy’s strike of the same year. Music and lyrics written by Alan Menken and Jack Feldmen include the songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.
” This production marks director Bryce Henrickson’s 100th show. The show opens at 2 p.m.
Sunday, and again at 7 p.m. that night.
Shows from Monday through Wednesday will also be at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $20, plus fees.
