Schuyler schools are back to normal this week after a secure mode procedure was made last week, but lifted after the student who was involved was located. Following a Sept. 24 announcement that Schuyler Community Schools were going into secure mode, an update that afternoon was issued via the district's Facebook page alerting community members the student had been located and things were largely back to standard procedure.

At the time, the schools were put into secure mode out of an abundance of caution after it was reported a Schuyler High School student had left home and was thought to be armed, though the student had not indicated any intent to harm anyone. Because the student hadn't been found at the time of dismissal, students were monitored by law enforcement as they left the school. The involved student was located soon after.



"The person was found, it was resolved that night in a fashion we felt made everyone safe here in Schuyler," Superintendent Bret Schroder said. Secure mode, Schroder explained, is simply more scrutiny of those going in and out of the buildings, including ID verification and stricter rules about entry and exit. "The nice thing about secure mode is when we're unsure, we don't know if the person is even in town still, secure mode allows us to basically lock down anyhow.
