Janette Manrara has opened up about a "challenging" time in her life which occurred in her first year of Strictly Come Dancing . Back in 2013, Janette, her husband Aljaz Skorjanec and fellow dancer Kevin Clifton joined the professional line-up and respectively had different outcomes with their celebrity dance partners. In week four, the 40-year-old and her first celebrity partner Julien McDonald were given the boot following a dance-off with Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev.
Aljaz on the other hand went all the way to the end and lifted the Glitterball trophy with Abbey Clancy, beating Kevin and Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid in the final. Due to Janette and Julien's early departure, this meant that they were unable to join the nationwide tour. In her book titled Tiny Dancer, Big World, the dancer shared how not being on tour with Aljaz was "one of the most challenging times" of her life so far.
She explained: "I was disappointed, especially as I didn't know many people in the UK, and I wouldn't see Aljaz for five long weeks. "Loneliness settled in and I found myself grappling with feelings of defeat. "It was undoubtedly, one of the most challenging phases of my life.
"Failing at what could have been the pinnacle of my career left me questioning my abilities." Janette said her motivation had then all of a sudden became "an uphill battle" including going for a simple walk. "Failure had cast its shadow, branding me as a 'not good enough' in my own mind," she wrote.
