She will join the likes of Nick Knowles , Paul Merson and Pete Wicks on the show which has been hit by and abuse and bullying scandal in recent months. Sporting star Sam appeared on ITV 's I'm A Celebrity in 2016 with former Strictly pro Ola Jordan . And in an interview with HELLO! after the show she divulged that she and husband Tom Mairs were going to do dance classes.

'It's a good thing for us to get out and get more active rather than socialising on the sofa, so we're going to start taking classes on the corner.' A representative for Sam has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Sam was announced to be taking part in Strictly's on Monday's episode of The One Show, alongside Nick and Paul. Sam, MBE, is a television personality and former field hockey player. She was also a team captain on A Question of Sport.

She played as a defender for both the England and Great Britain teams, wearing squad number 13, and won gold as part of the British team at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She said on the show: 'I am so relieved it is out there now it has been hard to keep a secret! 'The rumours were spreading and I had to lie! I am used to dancing on a girls night out but I will give it my all. I hope to get to Blackpool!'
