Streets were sealed off as the bomb squad was called to deal with a 'suspicious item' yesterday afternoon which had been dug up at nearby garden. Emergency services, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, were called to the Rivington Lane area, near Lower Rivington Reservoir , yesterday afternoon after the discovery. A number of roads were sealed off while investigations took place to the identify the object, which Lancashire Police said it turned out to be nothing dangerous.

"A number of temporary road closures were put in place. "I just wanted to say thank you for your patience.
"This has now been resolved and turns out to be nothing sinister or dangerous. "Thank you to the EOD for assisting along with PC DAVIES and his dog PD Fred.".
