Actor-filmmaker Fisher Stevens (“Palmer,” “The Lincoln Project”) is set to direct the climate drama/thriller “The Montreal Protocol” which is in the works at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, New State Pictures and Curiosity Rights. Jess Kimball Leslie (“Kings of America”) is adapting the true story tale of the underdog scientists who set out to repair the hole in the ozone layer. Atmospheric scientist Dr.
Susan Solomon discovered what was causing the rip in the protective layer above earth’s surface. She and a team of U.S.
scientists ventured to Antarctica to collect crucial evidence that proved chemicals chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were linked to ozone depletion. Facing inhospitable conditions and risking their own reputations, their results shifted public opinion and world leaders’ attitude to the crisis. It ultimately led to the establishment of the Montreal Protocol – still the world’s only universally ratified global environmental treaty.
