Pune: The state prosecution on Thursday informed the court of special judge UM Mudholkar here that govt has given its sanction to prosecute two doctors and a mortuary staffer of Sassoon General Hospital, arrested in the Porsche Taycan car crash case. Two young software engineers had died when the car driven by the 17-year-old son of a prominent city builder hit their bike from behind in Kalyaninagar on May 19. The teen was returning to his home in Wadgaon Sheri along with two friends and his family driver, after visiting a couple of pubs in Mundhwa to celebrate the completion of their Std XII board exam.
The hospital's forensic science department head Dr Ajay Taware , casualty medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and mortuary staffer Atul Ghatkamble (all three now suspended) are facing charges of conspiring with the teen driver's father to manipulate the minor's blood alcohol test by swapping his blood sample with that of his mother's in exchange for money. Special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray told TOI on Thursday, "The Pune police commissioner had earlier sent a proposal to the state health department seeking sanctions to prosecute the three Sassoon staffers as they are public servants and facing bribery charges, among others, in the case." "The directorate of medical education (DMER) evaluated the proposal and on Wednesday gave sanction to prosecute the three public servants.
Govt found merit in the probe done so far by Pune police and hence, granted the sanction. We submi.
