Pune: State govt’s department of environment and climate change on Tuesday granted Rs8.5 crore to PMC and Rs10.2 crore to PCMC for greenspace development works at various locations under the Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan scheme.

Both the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had submitted a project proposal for the same to the state in June. “We will now start the tendering process and complete works soon,” said Amol Rudrake, PMC garden department’s head of state govt projects, adding, “Due to construction and IT development in the proposed areas, along with water scarcity, green cover has been lacking. Hence, we have decided to plant indigenous trees and shrubs there.



The approved funds will also facilitate maintenance for three years to help them survive and flourish into an urban forest.” For PMC, state has granted a nod for a garden at Lohegaon’s survey no. 126, near Harantale, costing Rs1.
