The St. Joseph Flyers fell 40-7 to fellow TAAPS Division II member Fort Worth Christian Friday night in Cuero. The Cardinals (4-1) limited St.
Joseph (3-2) to 130 offensive yards. St. Joseph head coach Jacob Vasquez knew this was going to be a tough test for the Flyers.
Fort Worth Christian is a state-ranked team, led by Division I quarterback prospect Landon Gigliotta. Gigliotta, who has a scholarship offer from the Big 10 Conference's Purdue University, completed 18 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns. “Fort Worth Christian is a good team, and I thought it was a great test for us tonight," Vasquez says.
"It’s setting us up for the season ahead. We look forward to playing a game next week, taking the lessons from tonight into the next game." Gigliotta sparked Fort Worth Christian's offense in the first quarter by hitting Aiden Abercrombie on a skinny post from 32 yards out for a touchdown.
Later in the quarter, from the Flyer 1-yard line, he threw a strike to Brant Ghali on a quick slant. With the score sitting at 14-0 midway through the second quarter, Gigliotta tossed a 22-yard touchdown to Bo Pearson. With 1:10 left in the first half, Cardinal running back Kason Anding scored on a 1-yard run to give the FW Christian a 27-0 advantage.
The Cardinal offensive front, behind left tackle Ryan Kaase, created running lanes and protected Gigliotta throughout the evening. The line did not allow a sack and helped its offense compile 173 yards rushing. Following two second-h.
