Friday, November 29, 2024 Florida’s Historic Coast is set to offer visitors an enriched experience with a series of cultural initiatives funded through grants aimed at preserving and showcasing the area’s history. These new developments will enhance the region’s appeal, which spans nearly 460 years of cultural and historical heritage. St.

Augustine’s Role in Chocolate’s Introduction to the New World One of the most exciting new attractions in Florida’s Historic Coast is the “Sweet Beginnings: Unwrapping St. Augustine’s Chocolate Legacy” exhibit, which will open to the public on December 7, 2024 . This exhibit, funded by a $14,000 grant from The Forrest E.



Mars, Jr. Chocolate History Fund, is dedicated to St. Augustine’s historical role in introducing chocolate to the New World.

In 1641 , a Spanish ship, the Nuestra Señora del Rosario y el Carmen , arrived in St. Augustine after being damaged in a hurricane, carrying crates of cacao. This pivotal moment in history will be highlighted through an interactive ArcGIS story map and a virtual tour at The Governor’s House Cultural Center and Museum.

The exhibit will remain open through March 31, 2025 . Exploring the Roots of Local Agritourism Just southwest of St. Augustine lies Hastings , a town known for its agricultural heritage.

Originally established by Henry Flagler to supply fresh produce to his luxury hotels, Hastings will be the focal point of a new public exhibit debuting in early 2026 . This exhibit.
