Sprenger Health Care debuted the Summer Street Fair Aug. 10 at the Towne Center Community Campus, 500 Community Drive, in Avon Lake, for guests in the community to enjoy an afternoon of activities. In the facility’s parking lot, the event featured food, live entertainment, games and a visit from Wild Hooves Traveling Petting Zoo, according to Emily Dvorak, admission and marketing director.
Like the petting zoo, guests enjoyed jumping in a bounce house, playing at the dunk tank and choosing their favorite shaved ice flavor from the Kona Ice Truck. Tables were set up where staffers were serving food to guests as well. “We love doing things for the community, and this is just another way for us to say thank you and we appreciate you to our community and our staff and our residents, and their families,” Dvorak said.
“It’s an opportunity for the community to come out and have a nice time, meet some members of our team and see our beautiful campus. On site was a Stuff the Bus collection where event goers were encouraged to bring a school supply item as a donation, which was nearly full before the one-hour mark of the Summer Street Fair beginning, Dvorak said. “I think we think it’s really important for our community,” said Erin Jones, RN and assistant director of nursing.
“We are a big campus here and so we want to make sure that we’re reaching out to our community and supporting them.” Though a free event to the public, Jones said the Summer Street Fair was also open to residents, staff and their families to show appreciation and give back to them also. As with showing appreciation, Dvorak said the event is also important for residents in terms of socialization, especially for those who maybe don’t go out as often.
“It feels really good, it feels like we’re making a difference,” she said. “It’s important for them to be included.” Aside from providing activities and food, a main purpose of the street fair is to bring the community together with both residents and staff, as a token of appreciation, according to Dvorak.
Inclement weather effects this week have emphasized the importance of togetherness and the goal of the event. “There’s so many things that the community can do for us as far as volunteering for our residents,” said Jones. “So, we want to do for them also.
