Aeromexico has unveiled two unique liveries in the past few weeks, introduced as part of its 90th-anniversary celebrations. Preston Fiedler spotted one of the unique liveries on 737-9 registration XA-GQS at Boeing Field. Aeromexico’s new livery on Embraer E190 On August 28, Aeromexico unveiled its new livery to celebrate its 90th anniversary, with the first aircraft, an Embraer E190, registered as XA-IAC, wearing the new paint job.
According to Aeromexico, the new livery includes an updated version of the Caballero Águila, which is the symbol found on the tails of the airline’s aircraft. The new logo will showcase the evolution of the Aeromexico brand, projecting warmth, dynamism, modernity, and contemporary Mexico. Furthermore, the new Caballero Águila presented a more human-like face that symbolized closeness and empathy, the core of Aeromexico’s goal to build better connections with its customers, stakeholders, and partners.
Andres Conesa, Aeromexico's chief executive officer (CEO), highlighted that 2024 was a year with a significant milestone for the airline, which was celebrating its 90th anniversary. “We would like to present to you the new livery that our fleet will display, which is a reflection of the internal transformation we have undertaken to consolidate a world-class product, always keeping our customers at the center of everything we do. ” The airline expects to launch 15 new routes to the United States, alongside Delta Air Lines, next year.
737 MAX 9, known as Kukulcán Meanwhile, on August 21, Aeromexico unveiled a special livery on one of its Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft. Edgar Flores, known as ‘Saner,’ a Mexico-based artist famous for creating artwork inspired by the folklore, colors, and mysticism of Mexican culture, created the design for the special livery of the Aeromexico 737 MAX 9. The aircraft features various iconic elements, including flowers, birds, and endemic species, and vibrant colors will showcase Mexico's cultural references and traditions.
Aeromexico named the 737 MAX 9, registered as XA-GQS, ‘Kukulcán’ after the Mayan feathered serpent deity regarded as the god of the winds. Speaking about the livery and participation in the project, Flores remarked that the design was inspired by every Mexican’s dream to fly as if the Aeromexico aircraft was a “great bird that takes us to different destinations in Mexico and the world.” Conesa said ‘Kukulcán’ will accompany ‘Quetzalcoatl,’ a Boeing 787-9 registered as XA-ADL.
Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec deity related to Kukulkan . Both will serve as Mexico's ambassadors in the skies. “Kukulcán is a symbol that every trip is a dream, and with it, we want to continue connecting you with what you love most.
” Flights are set to begin on December 19th. Six aircraft in the backlog According to ch-aviation data, Aeromexico has only six aircraft in its backlog, namely two 737 MAX 8 and four 737 MAX 9 aircraft. The site’s records also indicated that out of the six, three aircraft, namely two 737 MAX 8 and one 737 MAX 9, had already completed their first flights.
The two 737 MAX 8s flew on June 11 and August 5, while the larger variant of the type had its first outing into the air on July 28, which could indicate that the three deliveries could be imminent. All three aircraft have been ordered by different aircraft lessors, namely Air Lease Corporation (ALC) , DAE Capital, and Jackson Square Aviation, per ch-aviation. Delta Air Lines is still seemingly hopeful that DOT would renew the antitrust immunity for its joint venture with Aeromexico.
