When it comes to our hair, it is little wonder that it is often referred to as our crowning glory. It’s something that we use to express ourselves with, whether that is cutting jagged fringes into and over dyeing as a teenager, cutting short to mark a new phase of life, or coaxing into a bouncy blowdry for a milestone event. In a classic case of you don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone, we can also take our hair for granted, cursing as we drag a brush through unruly, lively curls or weeping as we try to coax fine strands into a chic up-do.

Rarely do we think about what we would do if our hair stopped cooperating with us in a more official capacity, such as the thinning that can come with age or lifestyle impacts. Dubliner Sharon Miller discovered that sinking feeling, and having looked after her hair beautifully all her life, found that the combination of menopause and medications left her hair feeling thin and lifeless. “My hair has been my pride and joy over the years.

I have always looked after it and used the right products, but since going through menopause and being on certain medications over the years, my hair has really changed and gone so fine," she told RSVP Live. “No matter what products I tried, nothing was working.” Luckily, she had a friend with an ear to the ground when it came to hair solutions, who recommended she book a consultation with Silke Hair & Beauty, owned by entrepreneur and hair expert Emma Robertson.

The salon specialises in helping people bring their hair up to its full potential through carefully considered treatments and with the help of extensions. Sharon explained, “A friend told me about Emma and the team at Silke, as she also has really fine hair and has been using extensions for years. I decided to give it a go and made my first appointment with Silke.

” After an in-depth look at Sharon’s hair issues, the team opted for baby bond extensions - these are extensions used for fine hair or baby fine hair. They can help clients who want to add back in any lost thickness to thinning sections of hair, rather than being for the addition of length, like we might think most extensions are for. Baby bonds are made of keratin bonds halved, and come in multiple thicknesses so that a hair extensions expert can make a bespoke selection of extensions for a client to suit their individual needs.

“I haven't looked back since,” Sharon said. “I have been getting keratin baby bonds, and these bonds are so tiny and discrete! Any previous ones I tried had been way too big.” Sharon’s hair extensions are undetectable, and just look like her own natural hair is back to its full and healthy self.

“I have never seen smaller bonds than these, none of my friends even notice that I have them in. They give me back the fullness my hair once had and I couldn't be more grateful.” The bonds are also very sturdy and versatile, they can be dyed while still installed, as well as washed, heat treated and blow dried as normal For Sharon, a set lasts anywhere from three to four months, so she is not constantly hopping in and out of the salon chair getting maintenance or refills.

She said, “The girls remove them very easily and colour and reapplication can be done in one day, which is a great bonus.” The very satisfied client shared a special moment of praise for the Silke team. “The girls are all so friendly and talented in Silke, and I have honestly never been treated better or felt better or more confident leaving any other salon!”.
