To celebrate the launch of Patrick Star’s first ever lead role in a video game, we speak to its publisher to learn more about how it made the sea star’s dream come true. This year saw kids show SpongeBob SquarePants somehow celebrate its 25th anniversary. However, although his name might also double up as the title, even a casual fan can’t deny that the kind-hearted square wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near as far without the eclectic cast of characters who surround him.

Patrick Star is chief amongst them, of course, who this week finally cemented a quarter-century of chaotic friendship by starring in his very own game. Developed by studio PHL Collective and published by Outright Games, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game offers players multiple ways to wreak havoc throughout Bikini Bottom in appropriately hectic fashion. Not to be confused with the semi-open levels found in SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated or 2023’s The Cosmic shake more recently, The Patrick Star Game instead opts to make Patrick’s surroundings a physics-based sandbox, with iconic locations such as The Krusty Krab and Glove World serving as an inventive playground for madness.
