Monday, September 9, 2024 Spirit Airlines is boosting Albuquerque flights with new daily routes from Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles for October’s iconic International Balloon Fiesta. Spirit Airlines, an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC), is gearing up to boost its flight offerings to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the upcoming International Balloon Fiesta in October. The airline plans to introduce new daily flights from both Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles.

These additional routes will commence in early October and continue through mid-month. Currently, Spirit’s only scheduled service to Albuquerque connects with Las Vegas, marking these new routes as a significant expansion. A new service is set to launch on October 2nd, as reported by Aeroroutes.

The ULCC will introduce daily flights between Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) and both Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) through October 15th. Spirit will use its Airbus A321neos for the DFW-ABQ route. For the route between LAX and ABQ, both the A321neo and the A320 will be utilized, with the A320 operating on select dates.

American Spirit will directly challenge Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines, which currently dominates the DFW-ABQ route. As reported by aviation analytics firm Cirium, American Airlines has planned 431 flights using four different aircraft types. The A320 will be used for eight flights, the A321 will operate 65 flights, the Boeing 737-800 will handle a significant majority with 292 flights, and the Embraer E175 will be used for 66 flights, managed by American’s regional subsidiary, Envoy Air.
