The surge of tourists at one Majorcan beach has left locals furious leading to them consider making a formal complaint. Majorca is a hotspot destination for tourists, especially Brits, thanks to its beautiful beaches and warm weather, but this has led to a surge in tourism recently. The popular Cala Major beach in Majorca is now overrun with tourists and tourist services, leaving locals struggling to find a place to enjoy the beautiful beach, according to new data.

An eyewatering 78 percent of the beach is taken up by pricey sunloungers, parasols, beach bars, showers, storage and lifeguard stations, according to calculations from the Sant Agustí and Cala Major Neighbours Association, according to the Express. This means residents had just 22 percent of the beach left this summer to find a spot to enjoy it and place their towels down for free. This has left locals fed up and are reportedly considering taking matters into their own hands by filing an official complaint.



It's reported the association will write a formal complaint to Palma Town Hall, taking aim at the sunloungers, and demand a new tender process for next year. The company with the tender contracts was granted a special extension this summer. It's not just the association that is furious, locals across the island are also fed up, with multiple protests held throughout the summer to call for stricter limits on tourism.
