The country has been parched by an extended dry spell, with certain areas not witnessing rainfall for over eight months, causing reservoir levels to plummet.

This has led authorities in Castellon to enforce the restrictive measures. The region's reservoirs have seen a dramatic 25% drop, marking the worst drought on record, and now everyone including locals, tourists, and the agricultural sector must comply with the new rules. In a bid to conserve water, residents are also being instructed not to wash their cars or irrigate their gardens.
