Developer Reggie Daniel talked about the subdivision, stating they had plans for single family homes and a variety of other residences. “We’ll have condominiums around the pond, we’ll have luxury townhouses over here, commercial behind us that we’re mimicking across the street from the existing commercial, and then .

. . upscale apartments back in the corner there.

” He detailed the amenities. “We’ve got two ponds, a walking trail around both, and covered bridges, fire pits. We’ve relandscaped everything, redid the sprinklers as well.

You name it we’ve done it.” Daniel gave numbers for future dwellings. “In the single family, they’ll be a total of 55.

” He mentioned there were plans for 80-90 residences, in addition to the commercial area. He gave current progress since the first of the year. “We’ve just started this year.

We’ve got three houses built. We’ve already closed out one, and we’re finishing up the third one.” In addition, the community includes 19 homes from earlier construction.

Mayor Lee Kinnamon gave an address. “It’s all about loving your neighbor, creating loving neighborhoods, and that is what I see when I see you, and I see Southland Village, and I’m grateful to you and to those who have supported this enterprise, and to those who are perhaps a bit on the sidelines, get off the sidelines.” Council member Daryl Dowdell addressed the crowd.

“I would just like to say thank you for investing in our community. Thank you for investing in District 6.” He spoke of the need for housing in the community and thanked Daniel for his efforts.

Charles Strickland, a resident, talked about living in the community. “We moved here in July of 2016. I’ve enjoyed it very much.

It’s nice and quiet.” Strickland did talk about hopes for the future. “We’d love to see it as a gated community.

” Daniel commented on the gates. “We found out, this being a public street, you can’t have a gated community. You can’t have gates on a public street, it’s against the State law, so we had to open them up.

” Daniel expressed hope for the gates in the future. “We hope one day that we will be able to go back to a gated community.” He mentioned it would require effort.

“We’d have to go through the chain of changing things, changing the law.”.
