LOST CREEK, W.Va. (WV News) — The last time that the South Harrison volleyball team won a sectional title, it was 2015.

That streak is now over. With their 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17 victory over Ritchie County in the Class AA Region II Section 2 final on Tuesday at South Harrison, the Hawks became the sectional champions. “It is my first sectional title, and it’s an honor to have these girls and to have won this game,” South Harrison coach Breanna Sears said.

“The last time South Harrison volleyball won a sectional title was in 2015, which was my sophomore year of high school, and so to be able to know what it feels like to win a sectional title and then coach the team that won the next sectional title, it’s an honor.” South Harrison will host the loser of the Petersburg-Philip Barbour match on Wednesday. Ritchie County will have to travel to the winner of the match between the Vikings and the Colts.

The dates of both matches are to be determined. After dropping the third set, the Hawks jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the fourth set, which included three kills from Kennedy Southern. A tad later, another kill from her gave the Hawks a 7-3 lead.

Those four kills were part of her 17 kills on the night, which was one of the reasons for her triple-double. Southern, a freshman, also played in the back row at times and kept many plays alive with 11 digs. She also served 11 points including five aces.

“I felt like she was critical today,” coach Sears said of Sou.
