Friday, November 29, 2024 South Africa’s rural tourism sector is gaining momentum, and at the forefront of this movement is Phumeza Stuurman, a visionary young woman from Eastern Cape. Driven by a strong passion for using tourism as a catalyst for economic growth in her rural community, Stuurman opened her home to visitors, giving rise to the KwaStuur Homestay experience. Located in the picturesque village of Nxarhuni, just outside East London, KwaStuur Homestay offers a rare opportunity to explore the untouched beauty and rich culture of rural South Africa.

The homestay is a perfect fusion of hospitality and community spirit, where visitors can immerse themselves in the local lifestyle while contributing to the economic upliftment of the area. Initially, Stuurman’s vision was even broader. She dreamed of creating a multifaceted tourism product that included an adventure park, backpacker-style accommodation, and a restaurant.
