Sharing insights about the film, director Siddharth said, “The movie Sorgavaasal is based on the lives of prison inmates and the challenges faced by prison officers. We shot the film over 40 days in locations across Chennai and Karnataka.
The most significant portion—80% of the film—was filmed inside a prison in Shimoga, Karnataka.” Describing it as an emotional action thriller, Siddharth highlighted that the movie includes two songs, one of which has been sung by popular singer Anirudh. The storyline is inspired by the 1999 riot that took place in Central Jail, forming the central narrative of the film.
In Sorgavaasal, R.J. Balaji plays the role of a pushcart vendor who is imprisoned for a minor offense, stepping into a character unlike any he has portrayed before.
Saniya Iyappan plays his wife. Additionally, an African actor plays a pivotal role in the movie. Siddharth revealed that the script was co-written by him along with Ashwin and Tamil Prabha.
