Binay said the attire was “meticulously handloom-woven by the master artisans of Aklan.” READ: Kabataan party-list prepares ‘protest barong’ for Marcos’ Sona “The terno’s bodice captivates with its delicate calado patterns, vintage beadwork, and intricate dove-gray rose cutwork,” her statement read. “The skirt is a vision of opulence, adorned with motifs of palay (rice stalks) rendered in grain-shaped pearl beads and finished with a flourish of calado floral embroidery at the hemline,” it added.

According to Binay, this is her way of supporting local growers and weavers on top of providing funding and doing initiatives to showcase local fabrics to the global fashion stage. The President delivers the Sona every fourth Monday of July to report the government’s achievements, unveil its agenda, and ask Congress to pass priority measures. To ensure public safety during the Sona, the Philippine National Police will deploy 23,000 personnel to Metro Manila.
