An eight-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck by a concrete “solemn sprite” statue at a luxury hotel in Arizona. The boy suffered a head injury and is in an “extremely critical” condition after the statue struck him at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix. Police officers said they responded to a call of an injured person at around 8.
45am. “Officers responded and located an injured school-age child,” Phoenix Police Department said in a statement. “The child has been taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
At this time there are no signs of foul play.” The hotel said it was “deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the hotel earlier this morning”. “Our top priority is the safety of our guests, and our thoughts are with the family impacted by today’s events,” it added.
News reports from the scene show one of the hotel’s “solemn sprite” statues broken into pieces on a grass lawn. Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller said the firefighters responded to the scene and helped get the child to hospital.
Mr Keller told Fox10 he is “in extremely critical condition”. The four-star hotel, where suites cost upwards of $1,200, prides itself on its 19 statues. The original statues were made in 1914 through a collaboration between American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Italian-American sculptor Alfonso Lanelli.
They were designed for the Midway Gardens in Chicago. When the grounds were demolished, they were taken to a Wi.
