Pune: A Solapur rural policeman’s 21-year-old son suffered serious head injury when two men on a bike attacked him after he resisted a robbery bid . The men on the bike tried to rob him of cash and valuables near Shivarkar Garden in Wanowrie around 2.50am on Friday.

Shreyas Mane, the victim, is from Akkalkot in Solapur district. He is currently residing near Jagtap Chowk, the Wanowrie police said. After the attack, Mane suffered a deep wound and received eight stitches, the police said.



He filed a complaint with the Wanowrie police. An FIR related to voluntarily causing hurt in a bid to commit robbery was registered. Mane, a student of a diploma in pharmacy at a city-based college, told TOI on Saturday, “I boarded an MSRTC bus from Akkalkot and alighted at Fatimanagar Chowk.

From there, I was on my way to my uncle’s residence at Jagtap Chowk. Two bike-borne men intercepted me in front of the gate of Shivarkar Garden and asked me to hand over cash and my smartphone, but I refused.” He said, “After the duo threatened me with dire consequences, I told them that I was the son of a policeman.

The biker suddenly pulled out a sharp weapon and hit me on my head. The biker and his aide sped away after blood started oozing from my head. But before I collapsed, I called my brother and informed him that I was injured.

” “My brother reached the spot and rushed me to a nearby private hospital where the doctors told me that I have a 1.5-inch deep wound on my head. I reported the incident to the police after I was discharged,” he said.

“I have given the description of the two men. The rider was an adult and the pillion rider was a minor. They were communicating in Marathi.

I have also shared part of the registration number with the police,” he added. Senior inspector of Wanowrie police, Sanjay Patange, said a police team was analysing CCTV footage in the Wanowrie area to pick up the trail of the two men. “We were working on certain clues and we hope to detect the case at the earliest.
