Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has expressed his delight over strike compatriot Boitumelo Radiopane's first senior goal for the club, following the Buccaneers' emphatic 8-1 victory over Marumo Gallants on Christmas Eve. The 22-year-old forward’s long-awaited moment arrived in spectacular fashion, as he netted in what was a dominant performance for the Soweto giants. Radiopane has long been viewed as a player with immense potential, having impressed during his time in Pirates’ youth ranks and with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side.

His performances in the development setup led to high expectations for a seamless transition into the first team. However, the journey to the senior squad has been challenging for the burly striker. Injuries during a loan spell at Cape Town Spurs hindered his progress, making his rise to the first team more difficult than anticipated.

Despite these setbacks, Radiopane's determination has not gone unnoticed. Both coach Jose Riveiro and his teammates have praised his tireless work ethic in training, which ultimately earned him a spot in the starting line-up and, eventually, his first senior goal. Mabasa was among those who celebrated the milestone, commending Radiopane for seizing his opportunity when it came.

“Really happy for Radiopane. He took his opportunity, he’s been working hard in training and finally he's got his opportunity,” Mabasa said in the post-match press conference. “You could see with the sense of brother.
