You may have been using your fan wrong for years (Image: Getty) When the weather gets warmer, many of us introduce fans into our homes. After all, when a heatwave strikes, we need all the help we can get to cool us down. But, even though they're super handy, it turns out you may have been using them incorrectly for quite some time.

According to a TikTok user called sophmac26, you've probably been facing it the wrong way. She shared a viral hack on social media showing how best to use them, and it's left people mindblown. Explaining how to cool down your room, she said: "What you do is open your window and face your fan outwards.

It's supposed to repel the hot air outwards, as opposed to just pushing the hot air around the room. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.

setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.

php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)}window.

top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.

detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.

getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.

addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript()ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript()ExpressApp.

Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)}) "My bedroom is usually the hottest room in the house at this time of night, and it actually feels so cool in here right now. It's so much cooler than what it is normally." Don't miss.

Nonetheless, it seemed to do the trick. She saw the hack somewhere online, and knew she had to try it out. Much to her delight, it worked a treat.

Since she shared the clip on TikTok , it's been liked more than 90,000 times, and people have been left pretty impressed by the handy hint. They can't get over they've been using the gadget wrong for so many years. Though some people weren't too sure if it would work, Soph assured them it does, as it was a tried and tested success for her.

It looks as though people are going to start getting experimental with their fans. @sophmac26 #hotweather #hotweatherhack #lifehack #summervibes ♬ original sound - Sophmac26 SUBSCRIBE Invalid email We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you've consented to and to improve our understanding of you. " Another wrote: "My husband was an industrial fan engineer. He tells the blokes at work to do this, but they refuse. It works.

" A third replied: "I have done this before, and it cools the whole room down in minutes. The fan sucks air from the back, so all the hot air in the room gets pushed outside." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "I do this for 10 years now.

It's almost a miracle.".
