This week's Sideline Spirit features the 5A state champions, the Central High School cheerleaders. "They know how to do a lot of things really well and so a lot of times that's where we put the emphasis on ..
. throw it and do what you know how to do and the rest of it comes with it,” said head coach Callie Farrell. For a back-to-back win, the team practices everyday Monday through Friday from 5:45 a.
m. to 7 a.m.
They start with an 8-minute run warmup and then move to stretching and tumbling. "It has definitely helped a lot because when we didn’t have warmups, practices were just a lot harder,” said captain Kennedy Sponseller. Farrell said that this is non-negotiable for the team.
"We all settle on what our non-negotiables are and then we go from there ...
and running was one of them,” Farrell said. When it comes to the state competition, the team will have some hefty competitors, even some that competed in the 6A division last year, but senior Savannah Davidson said they can handle the changes. “You have to have the mindset to be confident and lift yourself up and be able to get it and push through,” Davidson said.
With no full-out routine on Thursday’s practice, Farrell said that this week of practice has been successful, and Thursday was focused on adding new skills for difficulty. Assistant coach Amy Barnette agreed. "So even in those difficult practices, the girls just keep coming back the next day and try just as hard because they want to be successful," Ba.
